The impact of LDI:REACH


An independent evaluation of FIGO’s Leadership Development Initiative: Removing barriers to effective access and coverage of maternal healthcare (LDI:REACH) has found that the programme helped drive meaningful improvements in maternal and newborn health across Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Nigeria and Pakistan. The three-and-a-half-year programme closed at the end of April 2026, but its transformative impact will endure.

Breaking the silence around abortion in Côte d’Ivoire


Through the leadership of Dr Eliane Abhe and support from the FIGO Advocating for Safe Abortion (ASA) project, the Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians of Côte d’Ivoire (SOGOCI) has helped transform abortion care in Côte d’Ivoire.

By reducing stigma, training healthcare workers and encouraging open conversations, more women are now able to seek safe care and advice without fear.

Policy and advocacy prevention of preterm labour


Preterm birth (PTB) is the leading cause of mortality among children under five and a major contributor to lifelong morbidity, disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries. A new paper in the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics (IJGO), developed by the FIGO Committee on Preterm Birth, reviews current evidence and global experiences and calls for urgent action to elevate PTB as a priority in maternal and newborn health.
