Recognising that midwifery care is not yet universally available, FIGO firmly supports ICM’s global campaign urging governments and health leaders to invest in one million more midwives. Midwives play a vital role in antenatal education, childbirth and post-partum care. Together with a strengthened midwifery workforce, we can end preventable maternal deaths, protect sexual and reproductive health and provide respectful, quality care for every woman and girl, everywhere.
